Who wants to win a copy of HumFree the Bee Has a Food Allergy? In the spirit of sharing and spreading food allergy awareness, I’m offering a copy of my children’s picture book, HumFree the Bee Has a Food Allergy, to three people in honor of Food Allergy Awareness Week that begins today, May 14!
Of course it’s also Mother’s Day, so I’d love to give three food allergy mamas a little treat!
With Food Allergy Action Month upon us and FAAW starting today, I’m seeing a surge in activity on the food allergy awareness front and loving it. In addition to the sharing of food allergy facts and tips via social media, I’m seeing increased communication and awareness at local schools. This makes me so happy. This is what really touches my family and spreads awareness to those in our communities.
One of the many reasons I wrote HumFree’s story is to spread awareness and share information about food allergies in a relatable and fun way for our children. In this spirit, I can’t think of a better time to share HumFree’s story than now!
Spreading Food Allergy Awareness: One Book at a Time
All you have to do to enter to try to win one of the three copies is post a comment here and on one of your social media platforms about why you want a copy and how you plan to share HumFree’s messages of hope, awareness, inclusion and safety. For example, you could read HumFree to your child’s class or share your copy with the school library if you already have one at home!
I’m so happy to have a new food allergy mama friend at our school this year. She and I gave our school Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) posters to hang up and also worked with the library to put up a food allergy book display! It’s wonderful having friends who get it and are dedicated–and also a school that is wonderfully receptive.
Another helpful thing about HumFree the Bee Has a Food Allergy is the two pages in the back that share food allergy facts and tips in an easy-to-read and fun format–and in HumFree the bee’s voice and rhyme! They have proven to be very helpful when I do my readings and are a fun way to get the food allergy dialogue started. My sweet listeners always are surprised by how many children in the United States alone have food allergies.
So share how you will spread food allergy awareness with HumFree’s help by this Friday, May 19! I will choose three winners and mail out your copies on Saturday!
Here’s more information about HumFree, illustrations of HumFree and his friends, and HumFree’s song that offers a fun singalong with the book (click on it for a free listen!):
Most importantly, I can’t think of a better day to thank all of you food allergy mamas who are spreading awareness today, this week, this month and every day. It truly takes a village. I’m so very grateful for you.
